Jawab al-Sahih li-man baddala din al-Masih(part 3)

""Al-Jawab al-Sahih liman baddala dina al-Masih" (The Correct Answer to Those Who Altered the Religion of Christ) by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah is one of the most monumental and profound classical Islamic works in the field of comparative religion and the refutation of Christian doctrines. Written as a comprehensive response to a theological letter sent from Cyprus that defended Christianity and criticized Islam, the book meticulously establishes the core Islamic tenet that all prophets preached the same absolute monotheism. It systematically refutes the doctrines of the Trinity, the hypostases (Aqanim) and the crucifixion, while proving the alteration of previous scriptures and highlighting the biblical prophecies foretelling the advent of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ."

"Al-Jawab al-Sahih liman baddala dina al-Masih" by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah stands as a massive, unparalleled scholarly encyclopedia in the field of comparative religion and the refutation of Christian doctrines, originally authored as a detailed rebuttal to a theological treatise sent from Cyprus. Focusing on the core themes found within its third volume, the book firmly establishes that Islam in its general sense of total submission to God is the universal religion of all prophets, while highlighting Islam’s profound honoring of Jesus Christ and his mother Mary. Concurrently, it rigorously dismantles the arguments of Christian polemicists who attempted to misinterpret specific Quranic verses to claim that the Quran validates their contemporary beliefs or exonerates them from polytheism. Ibn Taymiyyah dedicates extensive analysis to refuting the doctrine of the Trinity and the three hypostases (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) utilizing both logical and textual proofs to expose the contradictions inherent in these concepts, while clarifying the correct scriptural definitions of "the Word" and "the Spirit" to invalidate claims of divine incarnation and union. Furthermore, the work demonstrates the occurrence of textual corruption, alterations, and contradictions within the scriptures of the People of the Book, rejecting any false equivalence between those texts and the preserved Quran. Finally, it explores the critical theme of biblical prophecies, showcasing explicit passages from the Torah and the writings of earlier prophets (such as Isaiah) that foretold the advent of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, thereby dismantling distorted interpretations and establishing a definitive, logical argument against critics.

Sheikh Taqi al-Din Abu al-Abbas, Ahmad ibn Abd al-Halim al-Harrani, known as "Ibn Taymiyyah" after his grandmother who was a preacher, is considered one of the most prominent figures in Islamic thought. Born in Harran in 661 AH, he moved to Damascus as a child with his family to escape the Mongol invasion. He grew up in an exceptional scholarly environment that propelled him into teaching and writing by the age of twenty one. Ibn Taymiyyah was renowned for his extraordinary intelligence and vast knowledge across various sciences, including exegesis, Hadith, jurisprudence and principles of faith, becoming a reference point in his field. Great scholars like Ibn al-Qayyim, al-Dhahabi, and Ibn Kathir studied under him. He was not merely a theoretical scholar but a model of asceticism and humility, a supporter of the weak, and famous for his bravery on the battlefields against the Mongols, facing their leader "Ghazan" with rare courage. He also confronted deviant ideas with his speech and pen, remaining steadfast in his positions until his death while imprisoned in the Citadel of Damascus in 728 AH.
