Jawab al-Sahih li-man baddala din al-Masih (part 7)

"This book is one of the most famous and massive theological works written by Ibn Taymiyyah. It serves as an essential reference and a comprehensive encyclopedia in the field of comparative religion and the critique of Christian theology. In this work, the author dedicated himself to refuting theological arguments and debating them using both rational and textual evidence, demonstrating what alterations and corruptions entered the religion throughout history."

Al-Jawab al-Sahih liman Baddala Dina al-Masih by Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728 AH) is considered one of the largest and most significant scholarly encyclopedias in the field of comparative religion and doctrinal critique within the Islamic heritage. The book was originally written as a detailed refutation of the "Cyprus Letter" a treatise composed by a Christian bishop to defend his faith and debate Muslims. Ibn Taymiyyah set out in this massive work to dismantle that letter using a rigorous scholarly methodology that combines explicit rational reasoning with textual evidence. He relied on texts from their own scriptures to demonstrate contradictions and alterations, and to refute doctrines such as the Trinity, incarnation, and union, while proving the prophethood of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through the remaining prophecies in their books. Throughout the text, he reviewed the history of church councils and various Christian sects and doctrines, such as the Melkites, Jacobites and Nestorians. The seventh volume of this particular edition, published by Dar Al-Asimah with meticulous academic editing, is dedicated to documenting the book's comprehensive technical indexes to serve researchers and ease information retrieval. It encompasses detailed indexes for Quranic verses, Prophetic Hadiths, poetic verses, cited books and sources, places and countries, and biographical names, making the entire work an indispensable reference for studying theology and interfaith dialogue from an Islamic perspective.

Sheikh Taqi al-Din Abu al-Abbas, Ahmad ibn Abd al-Halim al-Harrani, known as "Ibn Taymiyyah" after his grandmother who was a preacher, is considered one of the most prominent figures in Islamic thought. Born in Harran in 661 AH, he moved to Damascus as a child with his family to escape the Mongol invasion. He grew up in an exceptional scholarly environment that propelled him into teaching and writing by the age of twenty one. Ibn Taymiyyah was renowned for his extraordinary intelligence and vast knowledge across various sciences, including exegesis, Hadith, jurisprudence and principles of faith, becoming a reference point in his field. Great scholars like Ibn al-Qayyim, al-Dhahabi, and Ibn Kathir studied under him. He was not merely a theoretical scholar but a model of asceticism and humility, a supporter of the weak, and famous for his bravery on the battlefields against the Mongols, facing their leader "Ghazan" with rare courage. He also confronted deviant ideas with his speech and pen, remaining steadfast in his positions until his death while imprisoned in the Citadel of Damascus in 728 AH. His funeral was a monumental event attended by thousands who loved him and respected his profound knowledge.
