Jawab al-Sahih li-man baddala din al-Masih (part2)

""Al-Jawab al-Sahih liman Baddala Dina al-Masih" (The Correct Answer to Those Who Altered the Religion of Christ) is a monumental theological and intellectual work authored by Sheikh al-Islam Taqiyy al-Din Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728 AH). It is widely regarded as an encyclopedic masterpiece in the field of comparative religion and the refutation of Christian doctrines. The author meticulously formulated this extensive "answer" to critique the doctrines he viewed as later accretions to the original message of Jesus Christ. Throughout the book, he deftly integrates textual evidence from the Qur'an and Sunnah, passages from previous scriptures (the Torah and the Gospels) and rigorous rational and logical arguments."

The book "Al-Jawab al-Sahih liman Baddala Dina al-Masih" (The Correct Answer to Those Who Altered the Religion of Christ) by Sheikh al-Islam Taqiyy al-Din Ahmad Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728 AH) represents a milestone and a profound cognitive encyclopedia in the history of Islamic thought and the literature of comparative religion it is classified as one of the most robust treatises that deconstructed the theological and critical framework of Christian doctrine. The impetus for the book stemmed from a precise polemical and historical context, written in response to a letter by "Paul the Monk" the Bishop of Sidon in Cyprus, which carried arguments defending Christianity and raising misconceptions about Islam. This prompted Ibn Taymiyyah to craft this massive text, offering a comprehensive response that transcended a mere casual refutation to establish a methodology for critical comparative study.

The thematic depth of the book is manifested in its treatment of a series of major theological issues. It nullifies claims that previous prophets did not foretell the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and refutes arguments attempting to restrict the Muhammadan message to the Arabs to the exclusion of other nations, debunking misconceptions regarding the exclusivity of the Arabic tongue and the infallibility of the Disciples in translation. Furthermore, the book utilizes deep philosophical and textual analysis to invalidate the claim of Christ's divinity and the doctrine of the Trinity, deconstructing complex theological matters such as "the incarnation of the Word" and the distinction between the essential attributes of the Divine and honorary attributions, culminating in a critique of the doctrines of the Crucifixion and Atonement along with their rational and textual implications.

The author’s methodological professionalism is highlighted by his superb ability to cross-examine adversaries using their own source texts, citing the Torah and the Gospels to bind them by their own evidence. He balances sound reason with authentic revelation in his thesis to assert the alignment of Islamic theology with self-evident rational truths, re-framing the Islamic position as a just and moderate path between the negligence of the Jews and the exaggeration of the Christians. Consequently, this edition, meticulously verified by a select group of esteemed scholars, remains an indispensable academic reference in the fields of theological and Orientalist studies.
