Women in Islam

"A comprehensive and legal guidebook seeking to provide a holistic and objective vision of the status of women in Islam, with a focus on debunking and refuting common misconceptions and prejudices prevalent in contemporary societies. The book reviews the development of the status of women throughout history and explains the rights and duties guaranteed to her by Islamic legislation at various stages of her life."

This book serves as an intellectual and legal guide specifically directed to Western and Spanish-speaking readers, with the goal of eliminating misconceptions and highlighting the true honor women receive under Islamic law. The book begins its content by presenting a comparative historical study that shows the status of women throughout history and in pre-Islamic civilizations, contrasting it with the human rights breakthrough brought about by Islamic legislation upon its arrival, while discussing contemporary claims and demands regarding her rights. The work then transitions into establishing the legal and social foundation of women's status, dedicating independent sections to examining her roles and honors as a child and daughter, a wife along with the regulations of her marriage contract, a mother and her exalted status and as a relative within her social sphere and in interactions with neighbors. Furthermore, the book dedicates a vast and detailed space to providing a scientific and objective refutation of controversial issues, misconceptions and common prejudices surrounding women's legislation in Islam; it examines the philosophy behind polygamy, moral and financial responsibilities within the home, the boundaries of guardianship, and the legislation of divorce as a remedy when cohabitation becomes impossible. The analysis extends to include inheritance rights, property ownership, a woman's testimony, financial compensation in criminal offenses (blood money), her right to work and travel regulations, in addition to the philosophy and dimensions of the Hijab as an obligatory attire, while completely exonerating Islam from tribal practices such as honor killings. The book concludes with an objective summary that separates the incorrect behavioral practices of some adherents of Islam from the purity of legislation, which came to reinforce a woman's human and material dignity.
