"Magic: Its Danger, Protection Against It and How to Dissolve It" by Dr. Abdul-Muhsin bin Muhammad Al-Qasim is an important foundational reference that addresses the issue of magic and witchcraft which impacts the Muslim’s creed and the safety of society using a sober, scientific approach based on legal evidence. The book begins by dismantling this phenomenon through defining magic and tracing its history, answering the critical question of whether magic is a reality or an illusion while warning severely of its destructive danger. It then transitions to analyzing the character of the sorcerer and how he bartered his religion to serve devils, exposing his deception, injustice and the signs by which he is recognized so that people may beware of him. Furthermore, it dedicates ample space to demonstrating the means of prevention and legitimate treatment, clarifying how to discover the location of magic and reviewing the Quranic verses and Ruqyah supplications to be recited over the afflicted. It emphasizes the permissible methods of dissolving magic while strictly warning against visiting another sorcerer to undo it. Additionally, the book details and exposes the tricks and trickery of those who claim knowledge of the unseen, such as fortune-tellers, soothsayers, astrologers, geomancers and palm or cup readers, clarifying the strict Islamic rulings regarding visiting or believing them, while outlining the subtle differences between a sorcerer and a charlatan.
