The Sound Response to Those Who Altered the Religion of the Messiah (Abridged)

""The Sound Response to Those Who Altered the Religion of the Messiah (Abridged)" is considered one of the most prominent doctrinal references in the field of comparative religion and interfaith dialogue. It is a systematic and critical study conducted by Shaykh al-Islam ibn Taymiyyah to refute the theological and historical claims of Christians. The book focuses on discussing the doctrine of the Trinity, the nature of Christ and proving the comprehensive and universal prophethood and message of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), relying on rational evidence, Quranic texts and the prophecies mentioned in the Gospels and previous scriptures."

This book presents a deep theological and philosophical examination of evidence and texts by comprehensively deconstructing Christian arguments and theological claims through several main axes. It begins by establishing that Islam is the common religion of all prophets, then moves to refute the claim that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent specifically to the Arabs and not to all of humanity, responding in detail to attempts to use the Quran or the Arabic language to prove this assertion. The book also reviews the misconceptions and fallacies through which Christians believe the Quran or the Prophet (peace be upon him) praised their religion including the veneration of Christ and his mother, his miracles, monasticism, the disciples and the Gospel scrutinizing these arguments and clarifying their correct context. Furthermore, it dedicates significant scope to discussing and critiquing the doctrines of the Trinity, the incarnation and the three hypostases, proving their inconsistency and inability to stand before rigorous rational and logical criticism. Additionally, the book invalidates the claim that the perfection of Christ's message negates the need for the message of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), concluding with a demonstration of the scientific and textual methods of recognizing his prophethood and the universality of his message through a meticulous survey of the glad tidings and prophecies foretold about him in the Gospel and previous scriptures, alongside the evidence of his split-second insights into unseen matters and complexities that manifested after his time.

Ibn Taymiyyah

Author

Sheikh Taqi al-Din Abu al-Abbas, Ahmad ibn Abd al-Halim al-Harrani, known as "Ibn Taymiyyah" after his grandmother who was a preacher, is considered one of the most prominent figures in Islamic thought. Born in Harran in 661 AH, he moved to Damascus as a child with his family to escape the Mongol invasion. He grew up in an exceptional scholarly environment that propelled him into teaching and writing by the age of twenty one. Ibn Taymiyyah was renowned for his extraordinary intelligence and vast knowledge across various sciences, including exegesis, Hadith, jurisprudence and principles of faith, becoming a reference point in his field. Great scholars like Ibn al-Qayyim, al-Dhahabi, and Ibn Kathir studied under him. He was not merely a theoretical scholar but a model of asceticism and humility, a supporter of the weak, and famous for his bravery on the battlefields against the Mongols, facing their leader "Ghazan" with rare courage. He also confronted deviant ideas with his speech and pen, remaining steadfast in his positions until his death while imprisoned in the Citadel of Damascus in 728 AH. His funeral was a monumental event attended by thousands who loved him and respected his profound knowledge.
