"The Etiquettes of Walking to Prayer" is a blessed, educational Fiqh treatise written by Shaykh al-Islam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab in an accessible and concise manner. It highly emphasizes the practical application of worship that recurs in a Muslim's daily life or during yearly religious seasons. The book addresses three main jurisprudential pillars Prayer, Zakat and Fasting alongside a highly structured and simplified educational appendix.

The author dedicates the largest portion of the book to the chapters on Prayer, beginning with the description of the tranquility and dignity recommended for a Muslim while heading to the mosque. It then details the "Manner of Prayer" from the opening Takbeer to the final Tasleem. Following this, it transitions into the rulings of voluntary (Nafl) prayers, the virtues of congregational prayer, and the rulings of prayer for excused individuals, such as the sick and travelers. Furthermore, it covers occasional and seasonal prayers, including the Friday (Jumu'ah) prayer, the two Eid prayers, the eclipse prayer and the prayer for rain (Istisqa), in addition to the rulings of funerals (Janazah).

In the section on Zakat, the Shaykh details the types of wealth subject to obligatory charity, such as livestock, crops and fruits harvested from the earth, gold and silver, and commercial goods, while clarifying the rulings of Zakat al-Fitr and its legally designated recipients. In the Fasting section, the focus is placed on fundamental regulations and the invalidators of fasting.

The book concludes with a unique educational appendix that categorizes the rules of purification and prayer into specific numbered points to facilitate easy memorization such as the nine conditions of prayer, its eight obligations and its eight invalidators, as well as the conditions, pillars and nullifiers of Wudu. This structured approach makes the entire book an indispensable practical guide and a quick reference for every Muslim and student of knowledge.

Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab ibn Sulayman al-Tamimi

Author

Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab ibn Sulayman al-Tamimi (1703–1792 CE) was an 18th-century Islamic scholar and religious reformer from Najd. He led a significant religious reform movement in the Arabian Peninsula aimed at returning Muslims to pure monotheism (Tawhid) and rejecting innovations (Bid'ah) that contradicted orthodox creed, relying on the path of the righteous predecessors (Salaf) and drawing from Hanbali jurisprudence and the heritage of Ibn Taymiyyah. His call was translated intellectually and politically through his historic alliance in 1744 with Emir Muhammad bin Saud in Diriyah. This foundational alliance laid the cornerstone for the establishment of the First Saudi State, which helped spread the call and unify vast parts of Najd and the Hejaz. He left behind a rich scholarly legacy, most notably his books Kitab at-Tawhid (The Book of Monotheism) and Kashf ash-Shubuhat (Clarification of Myths).
